This ‘Riverdale’ star just revealed the brutally honest reason he left the show

Back in February, it was revealed that two prominent Riverdale cast members would be departing the show after season 4. Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols played Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) father F.P. Jones and Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) mother Hermione Lodge, respectively.

Now, Ulrich has been rather blunt as to why he chose to leave the show.

Ulrich originally spoke with TVLine earlier this year about why he chose to leave.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis,” Ulrich said in a statement. “I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind. But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also confirmed the departure of Nichols and Ulrich in his own statement.

“Part of life in Riverdale — and part of growing up — is saying goodbye to people,” Aguirre-Sacasa says. “I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavors. F.P. and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in Riverdale.”

Now, in an Instagram Live video with his girlfriend Megan Blake Irwin, Ulrich held nothing back about why he chose to leave the show.

“I’m leaving Riverdale because I got bored creatively,” Ulrich said. “How’s that? That’s the most honest answer.”

Season 4 of Riverdale ended earlier this month. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the final three episodes were never finished. The show has already been renewed for its fifth season. Aguirre-Sacasa spoke to TVLine about what we can expect from the next era of the show and spoiler alert: it’s probably not college.

“We’ve been talking and planning on doing a time jump… and of course, usually time jumps happen in between seasons, because there’s a tease at the very end.”

“So what we’re doing is picking up right where we left off for the first three episodes, and then doing a time jump… after those three episodes.”
