The show has been teasing the release of the throwback episode for quite some time. Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the basic premise of what is to come in the forthcoming episode in a story with Entertainment Weekly.

One of the things that the kids discover pretty early on is that the murder victims in the present were playing a game called Gryphons & Gargoyles, which is, of course, the Rivderdale version of Dungeons & Dragons,” Aguirre-Sacasa says. “And what our kids in the present discover, is that their parents, when they were in high school, were also playing this game and there was a similar murder that happened in the past.”

Additionally, the episode is said to pay homage to the 1985 classic, The Breakfast Club. In a story with the Los Angeles Times, Aguirre Sacasa suggests that fans are about “to learn about a really, really dark secret in Riverdale that the parents have been keeping since they were in high school.”

In the below transformation, KJ Apa kicks his famous red hair to the curb and adopts dark brown locks to fully get into the role of Fred Andrews. Lili Reinhart lets her hair down and slips into edgy Southside Serpent attire to play young Alice. Fans can also expect to see Madelaine Petsch, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes and Ashleigh Murray play their parents in their younger years.
