How character makeup on 'Riverdale' hints toward plot development

We know you’re counting down the hours until the return of Riverdale on The CW tonight. Riverdale‘s Makeup Department Head Erin McKenzie caught up with Teen Vogue to talk more about how viewers can see a characters’ future through their makeup.

For example, Veronica Lodge is noticeably more mature and has been taking on quite a bit in recent episodes (don’t worry—no spoilers here!), and her makeup reflects that.

“She’s becoming a little bit more refined,” McKenzie says. “It’s so subtle, and only the keen makeup fans are going to really notice, but it’s just enough to give her a little bit more control because she’s starting to move into a more powerful place.”

McKenzie tells TV that fans should pay attention to the characters’ eyes. What to look for? “Maybe her eyeliner becomes a little bit thicker, a little bit stronger. It really depends on the mood and the storyline,” McKenzie says.

Keep those eyeliner wings strong and eyelids peeled, and be sure to leave a comment if you notice any makeup changes in tonight’s episode!
