Rocky Loves Emily release moving new single, "Matthew"

Rocky Loves Emily have debuted a moving single from their upcoming studio album, Miserable Love, titled “Matthew.” Give the track a listen below and let us know your thoughts!

Earlier this year, the band officially announced that they had left Tooth & Nail Records and become free agents. They also posted a stream of another single from Miserable Love, titled “Hypocrite.”

The band's guitarist Sean Kick recently posted a lengthy explanation on the meaning behind the track, citing that it's about a close friend who overdosed on heroin in 2011. This is what he had to say:

I was truly blessed in life to share one of the most wonderful friendships anyone could ever ask for. Matt Bourdeau, who I confidently consider my brother, who my parents would probably consider their second son, defined the term “best friend.” He knew me better than anyone ever has, just as I knew him. He was always there for me, regardless of the circumstance, and gave me the clearest understanding of what it feels like to have someone who cares about you completely.

Unfortunately, after a relapse, Matt died of a heroin overdose on May 16th, 2011. Suffering the loss of the closest person in my life is, without any doubt, the most difficult battle I've ever fought. Along with numerous friends and family members, I constantly questioned myself what I could have done to ensure that this disaster never occurred. It took years for me to overcome the depression I fell into and accept that a life without Matt was now the reality I live in.

So many of us have been affected by loss. Matt was only one person, but his loss affected such a large group of people. My heart goes to Matt's brothers, Chris and Josh, his father, Brian, his mother, Kimberly, the love of his life, Alie, one of his greatest friends, Jona, and to the amazing number of friends and family that loved Matt so much. Matt was also a good friend to our band. He was always with us when we hung out, and accompanied us on tour. Matt lives on through all of us, and Matt, we will never stop loving you.

I wrote this song as a memorial to my best friend, my brother, Matt Bourdeau. His loss forever changed my life, as well as the countless people who loved him. Matt suffered much of his drug addiction in silence. I know that any one of us would have loved the opportunity to tell him, “you're not alone. We love you, and you will never be alone.” I wrote this song as a way to turn something so horrible, so, honestly, avoidable, into something positive. So many people suffer in silence. Whether it be an addiction, depression, anything, you need to know that there are people who love you more than you'll ever know, and without you, they will suffer immensely. PLEASE, if you're suffering, reach out. These people want nothing more than to love you. They want nothing more than the opportunity to tell you that you're not alone, that they love you, and you will never be alone.

Thank you,

Sean & Rocky Loves Emily
