‘Rolling Stone’ music charts launch two months later than expected

Rolling Stone has finally unveiled that it will now utilize its own music charts to track consumers’ listening habits.

The charts are as followed: The Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs, Top 200 Albums, Aritsts 500, Trending 25 and Breakthrough 25.

The five charts will be updated on a daily basis and finalized every seven days, starting on Mondays. None of the charts will track “passive listening” formats such as digital radio and terrestrial, but will focus on streaming.

The data for the charts is provided by independent analytics company Alpha Data, which is owned by Rolling Stones’ parent company Penske Media Corp.

“Part of the reason to get into the data space, we saw an opportunity to pair these brands,” Penske Media’s head of portfolio sales Stephen Blackwell said. “We want to share as much content as we can.”

Rolling Stone has stated that they plan to unveil several more charts in the future, with a more focus on global music-consumption rather than just strictly domestic.

The company will now compete with other music charts such as the highly-popular Billboard music charts.

As for the first chart, “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X tops for songs and Chris Brown tops for artists and albums.

The company was supposed to unveil their charts on May 13, but it was pushed back to July.

Speaking of charts, but Lil Nas X and Machine Gun Kelly are two rappers who have been showing their rock ‘n roll sides too by appearing on the rock music charts.

Lil Nas X recently hit the Billboard rock charts, and took to social media to share a hilarious Avengers-style photo to make the announcement to his fans.

The photo shows him donning the Infinity Gauntlet with three of the Infinity Stones labeled trap, country and rock.

Fans were elated by the news with many aiming for an EDM chart next.

Billboard revealed that “F9mily (You & Me)” debuted at No. 6 while “Bring U Down” ft. Ryan Tedder snagged the No. 7 spot.

As for MGK, the rapper just broke his personal rock chart record with his collab “I Think I’m Okay” with  YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker

The Cleveland rapper celebrated the big accomplishment on Twitter.

“I Think I’m Okay” appeared on Rock Digital Song Sales at No. 3 and Rock Streaming Songs at No. 11 for the week ending June 29.

MGK’s highest charting track to date of any genre goes to Camila Cabello collab “Bad Things,” which hit No. 4 on the coveted Hot 100 in 2017.

Having collaborated with pop artists (Cabello, Hailee Steinfeld), rappers (Tech N9ne, Waka Flocka Flame) and rock artists (SWS, Lzzy Hale, Avenged Sevenfold), MGK clearly isn’t boxed into one sound. Following the collab’s release this month, he clarified this fact once again.
