Rotten Tomatoes bans trolls from rating films before theatrical release

Rotten Tomatoes has now banned users from making reviews or comments about a film before it is released in theaters.

This move will ban users trolls from giving a film negative reviews before its release, such as what has happened to the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

The site is not banning user reviews entirely. Once a movie is out, users will be able to rate and comment about a film.

The new change is part of Rotten Tomatoes’ initiative to “modernize its audience rating system through a series of product enhancements.”

Trolls have caused Captain Marvel to become the lowest scoring film in Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

Captain Marvel has received incredible reviews from critics following the film’s screening.

Despite these rave reviews, Rotten Tomatoes users that some are dubbing as internet trolls have taken to the website to express their distaste with the film following comments made by the film’s lead, Brie Larson.

The negative audience reviews have lowered the film’s “want to see score” to a mere 47%.It became the lowest-rated Marvel film on the Rotten Tomatoes site.

The film sits behind Marvel’s 2008 film The Incredible Hulk which currently holds a 70%“want to see” score.

The same thing was happening with the upcoming Star Wars movie, which has no title and hasn’t released a trailer yet. The film doesn’t hit theaters for a good 10 months. However, users were bombing it in the reviews on the site.

A similar situation occurred during Marvel’s Black Panther just last year, which received a 79% audience rating despite being nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.

Hopefully the new rating system will allow the reviews to be more honest like the site was meant to be.
