Ryan Reynolds shares for how he prepared for ‘Detective Pikachu’ role
Ryan Reynolds has released a hilarious video about how he prepared for his role as Pikachu in Pokemon: Detective Pikachu that has us dying laughing.
The video was released before a new trailer for the Pokemon spinoff drops on Tuesday.

“I lived and breathed and became the character. I spent the entire year as Detective Pikachu,” Reynolds said. “Every second of my energy is spent making this character come alive.”
The video escalates when Reynolds talk about the lengths he went to to become his character.
“I was on my way to pick up my daughters from school when I heard I got the role. Well, I didn’t show up at school because, Detective Pikachu, he doesn’t know who those girls are,” Reynolds said.
“They’re our daughters. He just left them,” his wife Blake Lively says after Reynold’s anecdote.
He later jokes that even if his daughters don’t have a dad anymore, they’ll be proud to see Pikachu on the big screen this summer. However, Lively said they won’t be taking their children to see the film. This is the best promo for a movie ever.

In addition to Reynolds, Suki Waterhouse, Rita Ora, Bill Nighy and Justice Smith will also appear in the film. Smith had a packed year after his lead role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
In this film, Smith plays protagonist Tim Goodman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story is set into motion when Goodman’s father is kidnapped, forcing him to team up with Detective Pikachu to find him.
To make matters more chaotic, Goodman is the only human who can understand Pikachu talk.
Goosebumps director Rob Letterman helmed the project, which began filming in London around mid-January of last year.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu premieres in theaters May 10. Check out the first full trailer for the film below.
