‘Saw’ writers to bring back ‘Final Destination’ franchise

The Final Destination franchise is coming back thanks to scary movie masters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Melton and Dunstan wrote four of the Saw movies and are now taking on the sixth Final Destination installment.

The franchise will continue as a New Line production.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the sixth Final Destination film will not be a reboot. In other words, it will not include any of the original characters or continue as a sequel. Instead, it is being pegged as a “re-imagining.”

Plot details for the forthcoming installment have yet to be revealed. However, with Melton and Dunstan heading the project, we can expect the Final Destination series to come back scarier than ever.

Final Destination first served as an iconic piece of New Line cinema in the early 2000s. The first film, directed by James Wong, racked up $112 million. Throughout 2011, the franchise continued with four more films, grossing almost $700 million.

In addition to five movies, the Final Destination franchise also includes 10 novels and 2 comic books.

The original premise of Final Destination features a young student by the name of Alex Browning. While on a school trip, Browning predicts the plane’s explosion in a bad dream. After getting him and his friends thrown off of the plane, the aircraft does, in fact, explode. While on the run from the FBI, death follows all of his surviving friends, killing them off one by one.
