The casting comes after the film caused a bit of controversy. Recently, it was revealed that Matthew Lillard, who voiced Shaggy in almost every movie and cartoon since 2002, would not be returning for the role. Will Forte will take his place.

However, Lillard had a positive outlook on the future even though he did not get cast in the role.

The film is directed by Tony Cervone. Alongside Efron and Seyfried, who are both perfect fits by the way, the voice cast will also include Gina Rodriguez as Velma and Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman. Frank Welker is set to reprise his role as Scooby-Doo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans…and this time, we are told, the threat is real.”

The upcoming Scooby-Doo movie is slated for release in May 2020.
