Scott “Rock Action” Asheton (photo credit: Tom Getty), best known as drummer for the Stooges, passed away last night at the age of 64.

Asheton had suffered a stroke in 2011 that caused the band to seek a fill-in live replacement. No cause of death has yet been announced. 

Aside from frontman Iggy Pop, Asheton was the only consistent member of the Stooges since their start in 1967. His brother, Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, passed away in 2009.
