Here’s when you’ll likely be seeing Ghostface return for ‘Scream 5’
Production for the film is set to begin later this year.June 25, 2020
Since the announcement of the Scream sequel last year, we have learned a few key details. Production is set to happen later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina when filming is safe to resume amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Due to this delay, Paramount and Spyglass, who are overseeing the filming, are sharing when Scream 5 will likely hit theaters. As production has not yet begun, Scream 5 is likely to premiere sometime next year. As of now, no official release date or official name for the 5th movie has been shared.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Campbell noted that she was nervous about a new installment of Scream at first.
“I got this really, really respectful letter from the directors of the new one,” she says. “I had really thought that the only way I’d step into a new project with new directors is if they really wanted to honor him.”
In the interview, she revealed that she has not officially signed on for the movie yet due to the pandemic.
Actor and original Ghostface villain in franchise Matthew Lillard also recently shared his interest in returning. At this time, it has not been confirmed if Lillard will be joining Scream 5, and well, it may be hard for him to return. If you remember, his character was supposedly killed off at the end of Scream.
The classic movies were directed by the late Wes Craven. Now, the franchise is being taken over by Ready or Not‘s Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Plot details are still unknown but the story is being co-written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are producing while longtime Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson is executive producing. Chad Villella is also executive producing.
