This past week has been big for Miley Cyrus. On Nov. 27, she debuted her new rock-inspired album Plastic Hearts.

Now, Cyrus is continuing to show her rock side with a new emotional cover of Hole‘s “Doll Parts.”

Last Friday, Cyrus finally unveiled her new album Plastic Hearts. The record is full of nostalgic rock influences and even features collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol, Dua Lipa and Joan Jett. Despite some distribution setbacks with Plastic Hearts, Cyrus is still continuing to celebrate its release this week.

The former Disney star recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show. Along with talking about Plastic Hearts, her sobriety and her tattoos, Cyrus debuted an emotional new cover of the Hole classic “Doll Parts” on the radio show.

The song originally appears on Hole’s 1994 album Live Through This which also includes the hits “Miss World” and “Violet.” For the powerful cover, Cyrus truly channels her inner Courtney Love, belting out the song’s iconic lyrics while giving it her own rock ‘n’ roll spin.

Cyrus tells Howard Stern that Love has not heard the cover. In fact, this live performance was not only her first since the start of the pandemic, but it was also her first time ever playing “Doll Parts” live.

“No one’s ever heard me do it, I’d never heard me do it until yesterday,” she says.

Cyrus’ latest album Plastic Hearts marks a true departure from the artist we heard on 2017’s Younger Now. The new LP features a rock-influenced sound like we’ve never heard from Cyrus before. In particular, her collaboration with Joan Jett on “Bad Karma” is a true throwback to the ’80s rock ‘n’ roll era.

During a recent interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe, Cyrus revealed that she is already working on her next record. As well, she previously confirmed that she has a Metallica covers album in the works. Cyrus credits the metal band as one of the artists who influenced the sound on Plastic Hearts.

As for Hole, Courtney Love recently teased that a Hole reunion could happen in the future. Last month, she told NME that she would love to reunite the band again. In fact, she’s even taking guitar lessons in preparation for the event.

“Before I came back I actually had Melissa [Schemel] and Patty [Auf der Maur] come with our tech to this old-world rehearsal studio,” she said. “We had a good session, but it takes a bit of time to get back into the rhythm of it all. It’s something I’d love to do and been taking guitar lessons over Zoom during lockdown and I’m writing again so we’ll see!”

Along with keeping her fingers crossed for a Hole reunion, Love is also working on new solo music.

“It’s early days and I’ve recorded several new songs whilst I’ve been in London,” Love said. “I’ve also taken this time to enjoy rediscovering really good songwriters like Aimee Mann who’s from LA but went to Juilliard and is a genius and overlooked. Frances sends me playlists, which are fantastic and full of artists that I hadn’t come across before too.”
