Last month, Machine Gun Kelly confirmed that a movie based on his No.1 album Tickets To My Downfall is in the works. The upcoming project, which was co-directed by MOD SUN and MGK, is apparently going to be a lot like the classic musical Grease.

Then, at the end of October, Machine Gun Kelly confirmed that filming for the project has wrapped and that it is now a Tickets To My Downfall musical. At the time, not much information had been shared. However, a short Instagram video revealed that Hudson is involved in the project.

MOD SUN recently told the Zach Sang Show that he and Machine Gun Kelly knew Hudson was right for the role since the very beginning.

Following all of this, however, fans still had no idea when the Tickets To My Downfall musical was making its debut. Last week, Machine Gun Kelly shared during an AskAnythingChat interview that the film is slated to arrive sometime in December.

“Early December, I think first week of December,” MGK said.

Now, it looks like those plans have changed. Over the weekend, the official first teaser for Downfalls High was released. The teaser confirms that the musical is actually arriving in January 2021.

Starring Hudson and Sweeney, the Downfalls High teaser offers a look into the high school setting of the upcoming film. Along with fistfights and a romance story at its forefront, Downfalls High is entirely based on the tracks heard on Tickets To My Downfall.

Machine Gun Kelly previously told NME that the project is basically a “pop-punk Grease” and that it was all filmed in four days.

The musical, which marks the directorial debut for MGK, was inspired by a running joke between him and MOD SUN. They frequently use the excuse of needing to watch Grease 2 as a reason to leave certain situations.

“Maybe that joke sparked the whole idea, because now we’re making a new pop-punk Grease,” he said. “It was almost like shooting 14 music videos back-to-back, but with a narrative that’s outside of my personal life stories.”

Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker are narrating the musical which focuses on various characters.

“It focuses on other characters,” he said. “And then me and [Barker] are just the narrators. It’s an interesting concept because it hasn’t been done for an album ever, maybe outside of like Pink Floyd’s The Wall.”

The Downfalls High teaser premiere wasn’t the only exciting event for Machine Gun Kelly this weekend. MGK and Travis Barker performed “bloody valentine” and “my ex’s best friend” together for the 2020 American Music Awards.

The stage was set up with iconic Tickets To My Downfall pink lockers that appear in Downfalls High. As well, they were introduced by Megan Fox.

As it turns out, a lot of AMAs viewers were quite shocked to see MGK perform something other than rap music. However, he tweeted out a reminder to all of those who aren’t familiar with his recent genre jump.

Although Machine Gun Kelly did not go home with any awards, twenty one pilots did. The duo won the award for Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock, beating out Tame Impala and Billie Eilish.
