“This is by far the craziest birthday present I could ever ask for!” exclaimed Thomas Freckleton.

Fronted by charismatic vocalist Garrett Russell, Silent Planet are redrawing the lines of distinction between metal subgenres. The band’s ability to raise the consciousness of listeners via explorations of crunching riffs and post-rock textures (as well as thought-provoking videos) reveals a new evolution in aggressive rock. Check out their single for “Understanding Love As Loss” below.

After a fan vote, Silent Planet won against Broadside, Knocked Loose, Movements, Palaye Royale and With Confidence. This is the band’s first time taking home a Skully.
