Six Flags revives 30-hour Coffin Challenge for double the prize money

Six Flags took fear-based events to another level last year with a Coffin Challenge in St. Louis. It’s about what you’d imagine a challenge of that name would entail, which is forcing yourself to hang out in a casket for a set period of time in exchange for prizes.

Last year’s event during the annual Fright Fest had six chosen ones lay down inside a 2-by-7 foot casket for 30 hours straight with winners receiving $300 each. Much like last year, participants across Six Flags’ properties will be given meals and set bathroom breaks. However, now the prize money has doubled.

While the event will be returning to St. Louis, The Munsters star Butch Patrick will join in at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. There, the guest emcee will entertain as six guests yet again take a faked dirt nap.

The challenge kicks off Oct. 13 at 2:30 p.m. through Oct. 14 at 8:30 p.m. Applicants can enter either as a solo or pair (although we’re not sure why you’d want to share the already confined space, if we’re being honest).

The rules are pretty simple: participants must stay inside the coffin save for a 13-minute bathroom break every three hours. Anyone who exits the coffin other than the designated bathroom break or additional challenges will be disqualified. All supplied meals must be eaten within the coffin.

Entrants must be 18 years or older with a valid ID and no medical conditions that would cause a risk to your health when participating in the challenge. Each person must sign a waiver and provide their own pillow, sleeping bags, blankets, etc. for the duration of the challenge.

Six Flags Great Adventure 2019 Coffin Challenge prizes

There will be three grand prizes. First place will receive $600 cash and two 2020 gold season passes. In case the coffin wasn’t scary enough for you, first place will also receive two 2019 Fright Fest passes for the haunted houses.

Second place will receive two 2020 gold season passes and two 2019 Fright Fest passes. Third place will receive four 2019 admission tickets and four 2019 Fright Fest passes.

The remaining participants who don’t place in the top three will receive four 2019 admission tickets.

Some events have already passed including the $666 prize from Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Mexico.

However, several other properties still have events pending including Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta, Six Flags Great America in Chicago, Six Flags New England in Massachusetts and Six Flags Darien Lake in Buffalo will also host solo Coffin Challenges.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in California and Six Flags America in Baltimore will be hosting an exclusive Coffin Challenge: Couples Edition with one winning duo each.

Check out a video of last year’s event at Six Flags Great below. Six Flags Great Adventure will be live streaming their entire event here beginning Oct. 13. You can get more information and locate the application on the park’s site here.
