Skeet Ulrich teases new details of 'Riverdale' season 3

We might have to wait a few more months for the new season of Riverdale to air, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t getting a few details of what to expect on Season 3 thanks to Skeet Ulrich.

In a new interview with US Weekly‘s podcast “Watch With Us,” Ulrich, who plays Jughead’s dad FP Jones in the show, recently sat down to talk about the show’s upcoming season.

As we know, Jughead and his dad have been through a lot, especially in season two, and it appears that season three won’t be any easier.

When asked about the Serpents, one of Riverdale’s gangs on the southside, Ulrich shared that the future of the gang is in a rebuilding stage:

“The Serpents are sort of redefining themselves and trying to get their footing to figure out the next steps. There becomes a core mystery to the season that involves parents and children alike. It’s packed full already. We’re three episodes in. That’s definitely quite dramatic.

We also know that two big characters will be making their way to town: Jughead’s mom and his little sister Jellybean.

There’s not much known about the two, but according to Ulrich, FP and Jughead’s mom are still together (what could this mean for Falice?!)

“As far as I know, we’re still married. I mean I never wore a wedding ring in the show,” Ulrich shared. “My understanding is that they must still be married, and certainly, Jughead’s dream is to have the family back intact.”

Ulrich also talks about the opening episode and Alice and FP’s romance and a secret that’s going to affect everyone in the small town.

Listen to Ulrich’s interview here (Ulrich comes on around 12:30.)

Ulrich’s interview is the latest update on Riverdale‘s third season, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come!

Here’s what we know about Riverdale Season 3 so far:

We recently found out that the show will feature a parents flashback episode, which means we’ll get a little more insight on what the parents of Riverdale were like when they were younger.

We also know that the show’s main characters will be playing the younger versions of their parents.

So, we’ll get to see Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse as younger versions of Alice Cooper and F.P. Jones, while Camila Mendes and KJ Apa are set to portray Hermione Lodge and Fred Andrews as teenagers. Plus, Madeleine Petsch will also play a young version of Penelope Blossom.

We also know that Choni shippers are going to be very happy this season. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently took to Twitter to share a sneak peek photo of Madelaine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan (who play Cheryl Blossom and Toni Topaz respectively) dressed up in their characters outfits for season three.

“#Choni fans, a gorgeous preview of coming attractions, #Riverdale Ep. 303, courtesy of Cherry Bombshell…” the showrunner tweeted.

Then, a teaser trailer posted a few weeks ago, things in the small town are about to get intense.

Aguirre-Sacasa teased the show’s theme back in May with the Hollywood Reporter, where he shared that fans should “absolutely” expect something new from the show.

If a past interview with Camila Mendes has anything to do with the new theme, the new season is apparently a set-up for a “superheroes versus villains” plot:

“I think now they’ve set up a really great like superheroes versus villains story,” Mendes said. “Now we really know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are, so I think season 3 might have a nice comic book feel to it.”

This possible plot definitely makes sense, as some of season 2 seemed to focus on finding out the identity Black Hood, who is a villain if we’ve ever seen one.

Plus, in an interview with TV Line back in April, stars KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse, who play Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones, teased that the third season is set to focus on the “tragedy” in the season two final.

Of the new season, Apa shared: “It’s a tragedy, really, what happens. I think the last episode, if I were to describe it in one way, it would be tragic — for one person in particular in the show, but for everyone, ultimately.”

If new drama and tragedy are coming to town, it makes sense that new characters will also be making an appearance.

Per Seventeen Magazine, two new characters will officially be heading to the town of Riverdale: Evelyn Evernever and Edgar Evernever.

We also recently found out that a Pretty Little Liars star might be joining the cast. That’s right, actor Holly Marie Combs, who played Lucy Hale’s character’s mother on PLRmay be visiting the town of Riverdale.

The CW recently dropped the premiere dates of all of our fave shows, and we were beyond excited to see Riverdale is returning to the network this October!

The first episode of Season 3 will air on Wednesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. and we’re already counting down the days until the show comes back.
