Skrillex looks back on From First To Last and joining the band at 16

Before Sonny Moore was commanding clubs as Skrillex, he fronted post-hardcore outfit From First To Last. After joining the band at the age of 16, he recorded two LPs: Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count and Heroine.

During a recent interview with Katie Couric, he touched on his roots and how they shaped him into the person he is today. “[At 16] I learned I was adopted. But I mean, at the time… everything is so profound when you're 16. That was another reason why I was like, 'I'm gonna' go discover myself and travel and make music.' I found this band; I met them online and I flew out to see them. They were called From First To Last and I did [two records] with them and then spent two-and-a-half years touring with them.”

He continues on his parent's mindset during that time: “They were really supportive of me doing music, and my dad… he's my best friend, y'know? He's the only person I can get advice from. My mom passed away only a couple months ago, actually. She was the most caring woman in the whole world. I think what she taught me, ultimately, was [to] take care of your people.”
