Slayer suing Iceland music festival organizers for missing payment

Slayer are suing the organizers of Secret Solstice music festival in Iceland for allegedly not being paid for an appearance.

The metal band, who are currently on their farewell world tour, claims they’re owed $134,000 for attending last year’s event in June, Icelandic media reports.

Slayer were supposed to be paid by July 4, 2018 and have yet to receive their money.

It was reported in February that rap group Reykjavíkurdætur hadn’t been paid for last year’s festival as well. Since, they’ve been asked to play at this year’s festival for free. The group posted about it on Twitter.

The operators behind Secret Solstice have previously been seized by the city of Reykjavik due to unpaid wages. Since last year’s festival, Live Events has taken it over and made a new contract with the city.

The current organizers for the event have first alleged that the debt owed to anyone wasn’t owed by them. Therefore, they did not take responsibility for the money owed to companies, musicians and other people.

However, the current manager of the festival, Víkingur Heiðar Arnórsson of Live Events, says the new organizers will pay back the money owed from the previous owners.

Slayer reportedly had their lawyer write a letter to the city of Reykjavik about not being paid. That matter is allegedly under review and will be discussed at the city council meeting next week.

As previously mentioned, Slayer are currently on their farewell tour. You can check out the dates for those shows below.
