Slayer guitarist Gary Holt says fans shouldn't expect a new album

Is a new Slayer album on the way? Guitarist Kerry King suggested last year that they had “six new songs ready for next album,” but according to guitarist Gary Holt, it seems as though a new album might not be in the works.

“No. No, there’s no new album,” Holt says, ThePRP reports from a recent interview with The Metal Voice. “I’d say it’s a no. But my name is Gary ‘No Comment’ Holt today. I don’t know nothing. You’ve seen the dates, you saw the press releases. And come out and celebrate the mighty history of Slayer, which I’m lucky to have been part of for the last seven years now.

“It’s been a ride, it’s been remarkable, and we’re gonna end it in gloriously violent fashion.”

King previously discussed the material left over from the Repentless studio sessions, indicating that “six or eight songs” are already recorded and earmarked for the next record, “if those songs make it.”

“We already have more than half a record complete,” says King. “This is actually the most prepared we've ever been for the next record in our history; there's no reason to not do more work, because it's already more than halfway done. Just write four or five new songs, and give the others some attention, and we'll be good to go.”

When asked of the likelihood that Slayer's new album could come out in 2018, King kept it realistic. “It's conceivable,” King admits, “but I'm certainly not gonna promise it, because every time I do, I make a liar of myself!”

However, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Slayer announced the dates for their final North American tour earlier this week, confirming in a statement that it's their last tour “to thank their fans for all of their support over the years.”

“Slayer will do one last concert tour around the globe to thank their fans for all of their support over the years, for making the last three-and-a-half decades so packed with good times and unforgettable experiences, and will then move on.”

Lamb of God, Anthrax, Behemoth and Testament are set to support Slayer on the North American leg of its final world tour. Check out the dates below.
