Sleater-Kinney have announced that their drummer Janet Weiss has decided to part ways from the group.ย 

Weiss announced her departure to fans on Twitter.ย

โ€œAfter intense deliberation and with heavy sadness, I have decided to leave Sleater-Kinney,โ€ she wrote. โ€œThe band is heading in a new direction and it is time for me to move on. I will never forget the heights we reached or the magnificent times Corin, Carrie and I shared.โ€ย 

โ€œTo the dearest SK fans – youโ€™re the raddest fans in the universe and I love you,โ€ she continued. โ€œExperiencing the music together has been the honor of a lifetime. Thank you for sustaining me these past 24 years and for proving without a doubt that love and connection are what saves us.โ€ย 

Many fans responded in support for Weiss and thanked her for all the music.

The band then posted a statement on Instagram about Weiss.

โ€œWe are saddened by Janetโ€™s decision to leave Sleater-Kinney. It has been an incredible privilege to work with such a talented musicians and drummer over the course of so many albums, including The Center Wonโ€™t Hold,โ€ they wrote.

โ€œWe thank her for joining us on this journey many years (and) we will always cherish our friendship and time together,โ€ they continued. โ€œWe wish Janet all the best as she starts a new chapter in her life, we are so excited for everyone to hear the record, and to see you on the road this fall and beyond.โ€
