Sleep On It return with explosive pop-punk album ‘Pride & Disaster’—listen

Sleep On It solidified their space among rising pop-punk acts to watch with their 2017 debut, Overexposed, and now they’re delivering an explosive follow-up in Pride & Disaster.

Between touring and recording, the band dropped a nonalbum single in “Disconnected” in late 2018. A few months into 2019, the band revealed they were working with a “hot-shot producer”—an apt April Fools’ joke to give fans an update on their next album.

In July, the band kicked off the new album cycle with “Under The Moment,” their first single without bassist AJ Khah.

“At its core, the song is a cry for help,” vocalist Zech Pluister said of the release. “I spent a lot of the last year struggling with my depression and anxiety, and without even realizing it, I had fallen deeper than I really even noticed into those things. ‘Take my hand pull me again’ is a plea to anyone listening. The song also really tells the story of the struggle between the denial of those mental health issues, saying you’re fine, lying to loved ones to cover for yourself and asking those same people for help from under the crushing weight of each day.”

The following month, the band channeled their live show energy into “Hold Your Breath” with a tour-centric clip to match. With so much time spent on the road, guitarist TJ Horansky told AP in an exclusive premiere that the single was the first track he wrote “musically” on a tour. The first time went down in late November during their support slot on the With Confidence and Broadside co-headliner where he channeled the stage vibe into the music.

“I demoed the instrumentals in Maryland, and Zech wrote vocals while we were at the Palladium in Worcester,” he explains. “The energy of the song was inspired by our live show. Since we were on tour and playing every night, I was just in that mindset. I remember showing the guys in the other bands on the tour and getting their feedback. The music video is a logical encapsulation of that energy we put into our live show.”

This week, the band concluded their prealbum releases with “After Tonight,” which came paired with a video capturing a little friendly competition. Check out their full sophomore release, Pride & Disaster, below.
