Slipknot fan theories run wild after new vocal tease from upcoming album

Slipknot just dropped a teaser for their upcoming sixth album, sharing a cryptic new video on Twitter yesterday.

The video showed eerie footage over what most believe are heavily distorted Corey Taylor lyrics from the album, but fans are already going crazy with theories about the teaser.

Reddit user u/Raptorposse shared a sped-up version of the video on Slipknot’s subreddit, revealing a clearer version of Taylor’s vocals.

This is the last post sped up, seems to be a beauty of a scream by Corey from r/Slipknot

Even though the audio is much clearer sped up, fans are still wondering if the vocals are new or possibly refurbished from previous work.

YouTube user Stereotypicalize_Metal pointed out a similar sound between the video and “(515),” the intro track from the band’s 2001 album, Iowa.

This theory should excite fans who are hoping for a return to the heavy style of Iowa, which Taylor assures the new album will be. He even went as far as to say the new album contains the band’s heaviest song yet.

“The way we’ve been describing it is, ‘What if the guys who made Iowa matured? What if the kids who made Iowa grew up?’,” Taylor says of the new songs. “That’s kind of the way we’re looking at it because some of this shit is so heavy—but there’s melody, there’s really cool melancholic melody going on.”

He says the band’s at their “most ambitious, our most experimental” on the forthcoming album.

“At a time when most bands are slowing down, I think we’ve written our heaviest song—one of them anyway—on this new album,” he continues. “It’s going to be f*cking crazy. People are going to sh*t their pants when they hear it.”

Check out the new vocal clip and “(515)” below for comparison.

Reddit user u/0x8086 was able to identify a few key phrases while speeding up the video, pointing out the phrases “He came in,” “Peaking in,” and “Heartless.”

The album still doesn’t have a name, but we do know it’s set to drop Aug. 9, and if the band continue teasers like this, we’ll be watching closely.
