Corey Taylor clarifies “'Iowa' levels of heavy” remark on new Slipknot album

Following their first live performance in nearly three years, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor took to Twitter to give fans a little bit more information about the band’s forthcoming record WE ARE NOT YOUR KIND.

After thanking fans for their recent support, Taylor says the new record has influence from their previous works, such as Iowa. However, he also clarifies that WE ARE NOT YOUR KIND is an original piece in the band’s discography.

“Thanks to the millions of #maggots around the world,” Taylor says in a tweet. “Spoiler: new album has Iowa moments. Also has Vol. 3 moments. But it overwhelmingly has WANYK moments. Everyone’s a critic, but I hope this clears up any misconceptions. Enjoy the next chapter – see you soon!”

That said, in a 2018 interview, Taylor said the forthcoming record would be “Iowa levels of heavy.”

We have 16 songs written right now, and they are fucking dangerous,” Taylor says. “I loved .5 [The Gray Chapter], but this album, to me, makes .5 look like nobody’s business. This is Iowa levels of heavy.”

However, after the band released their new song “Unsainted,” fans brought up his previous words, noting that their expectations of new material were different.
