Slipknot confirm they’re working on new music

After announcing in an interview that they would be returning to the studio in February, Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan has confirmed in a sit down with Detroit, Michigan radio station WRIF-FM that the band is working on a new record.

“We're not just gonna sit around,” Crahan said. “We just feel like writing.”

In their previous interview with Rolling Stone, percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan said he and Jim Root had planned to meet in February to begin composing new material, but the date had remained tentative.

And in their new interview, Crahan says that their break is much needed, but they can’t totally stop since they “just feel like writing.”

“We're writing as a band, and with Corey [Taylor] as well… We're off, and we're off for a while,” Crahan says. “We've been touring for three years. Corey's doing what he does, which is Stone Sour, which is awesome. And he's living that life, which is awesome, because he does really well and loves it. It's him. It's his art. So he does that.

“And we're writing. We're beginning to write some music for Slipknot for the new record.”

He confirms that they had a great time putting .5: The Gray Chapter together, making them even more excited to work on new music once again.

“We just feel like writing,” Crahan says. “We've had so much fun writing .5: The Gray Chapter, and people that started writing together during this album cycle never wrote together in 15 years, so things are a little bit different and it's amazing and it's fun, and we have a good time.”

Plus, Crahan confirms that there is already music written for the new record, which they worked on as they were on the road supporting .5: The Gray Chapter.

“We have a lot of stuff already that we wrote out on the road for the last three years. We have songs that we've written that are amazing.”

And we can't wait to hear what this amazing music sounds like.
