Smashing Pumpkins part ways with drummer Mike Byrne

In a recent interview with Music Radar, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan confirmed that drummer Mike Byrne has left the band. This isn’t exactly surprising, given that Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee was recently announced as the drummer for the band’s upcoming album, Monuments To An Elegy—but now it's official.

“Tommy Lee is the drummer on the [Monuments to an Elegy]. Mike, like Elvis, has left the building,” said Corgan, when asked about the lineup by Music Radar.

Byrne had joined the band in 2010 at the age of 19, replacing founding member Jimmy Chamberlain.

Billy Corgan is being honored with the AP Vanguard Award at the inaugural AP Music Awards. Tickets to the show are on sale now!
