Smashing Pumpkins' upcoming tour will feature original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin

This summer, Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson are teaming up for a co-headlining tour. However, this tour is bringing change to the Smashing Pumpkins' lineup: Original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will perform with the band on all dates of the tour.

Frontman Billy Corgan explains what fans can expect from the tour to USA Today: “Heavy on the classics, heavy on the rock and heavy on the attitude.”

Corgan asked Chamberlin to join the band on tour after arrangements with another drummer were unsuccessful. Corgan found it difficult to find another drummer that could play Jimmy's more intricate drum parts.

“You can't just grab somebody and say, 'Play drums on this Smashing Pumpkins song,'” Corgan told USA Today. “Jimmy's drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it's a very rare class of people that can step in and play.”

The band and Chamberlin have not released any information on collaborating futher into the future, as Chamberlin owns a tech company called LiveOne, which he said is his priority at the moment.

“It's a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy,” said Chamberlin.
