Snapchat responds to petition against app design update

After a million people signed a petition against Snapchat's latest design update, the team behind the messaging application is responding in a seemingly perceptive tone… while still saying that the update won't be reversed.

As reported by Billboard, Snapchat has issued a retort to the recent “Remove The New Snapchat Update” petition that was signed by upwards of 1.2 million people on asking for the app's old-school aesthetics back.

“We hear you, and appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel,” reads the response from Snap Inc., Snapchat's parent company. “We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many.”

That said, it still looks like there won't be any turnaround on Snapchat's detested design change. “This new foundation is just the beginning, and we will always listen closely to find new ways to make the service better for everyone,” the Snap response continues. “We are grateful for your enthusiasm and creativity. We are very excited for what's ahead.”

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel announced the design update last November, but its rollout this year has been, um, less than enthusiastically received. Last week, the CEO said he was “excited” about the update—per Variety—which hinted at the app team's plan to stay the course with their design changes in the face of negative user reaction.
