Here’s who’s replacing Iron Man to mentor Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man 3’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been dealt with a lot of curveballs over the past year. Not only is the franchise still grieving the death of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, but production and release dates have been severely delayed.

Now, it looks like Marvel has plans in motion for the next Spider-Man film. According to reports, one particular hero is stepping in Tony Stark‘s shoes as Peter Parker‘s new mentor.

Although it is still painful for many fans to talk about, the death of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame left some pretty big shoes to fill. For Peter Parker especially, many fans are wondering if Spider-Man will have to go on without a mentor.

Now, it looks like another Marvel hero is stepping up for the job. According to Deadline, Benedict Cumberbatch is reprising his Doctor Strange role for Spider-Man 3 and will be Parker’s new mentor. At this time, no additional plot details for the new film have been revealed.

However, we do know that Cumberbatch will go straight into filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after Spider-Man 3 has wrapped. As we saw in Infinity War, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange made a natural pair as they teamed up with Stark and Chris Pratt‘s Star-Lord.

Tom Holland is returning as Spider-Man for the new film. As well, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon are also expected to reprise their roles.

The MCU has faced a number of setbacks this year especially with release schedules. After various delays, Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow has been pushed back even further. Instead of arriving on Nov. 6, the film will kick-off Marvel Phase Four on May 7, 2021.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is another MCU project that has been delayed due to coronavirus. The series was originally supposed to arrive on Disney+ in August, but filming just resumed this September.

Disney and Marvel are also deciding how they want to approach Black Panther 2. The film’s star Chadwick Boseman passed away suddenly in August after a long battle with colon cancer.

Some reports suggest that Disney has several options for Black Panther 2. The company could replace Boseman, a move that would likely generate a mass outcry from fans. Another option is to make T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) the new Black Panther.

There’s also a rumor going around that Harry Styles may play Starfox, Thanos‘ brother, in Eternals. A journalist appeared to confirm the news in a now-deleted tweet after Styles followed Gemma Chan and Richard Madden on Instagram.
