Spider-Man fan makes heartbreaking mashup video after hero exits MCU

Spider-Man fans have been in mourning ever since Sony and Disney cut ties, which means the character must leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Kevin Feige will no longer produce future spidey films due to the inability of the companies to “reach new terms that would have given (Sony) a co-financing stake going forward.”

The last two films Feige produced with Spider-Man, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, both broke records.

According to Deadline, there are two more Spider-Man films in the works directed by Jon Watts and again starring Tom Holland. However, Feige won’t be the lead creative producer.

Deadline goes on to discuss the entire thing coming down to money.

“Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe,” the report states. “Sony turned that offer down flat, and I don’t believe they even came back to the table to figure out a compromise.”

A few days later, Sony put out a statement on Twitter about the split and the future of the franchise.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film,” the thread began.

“We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own,” it continues.

“Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue,” the thread finishes.

Now, it’s really set in to fans that the future of Spider-Man is largely unknown without the Marvel tie. Therefore, they’ve been making lots of memes about the whole ordeal to cope and share online.

One fan created a mashup of Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire that takes the saddest moments from each trilogy and puts them together. The fan, @RubiksEdits, shared the video on Reddit. Check it out below.

Marvel fans have gone to war after learning of Sony and Disney being unable to come to an agreement over their Spider-Man franchise. After the two companies were reportedly unable to reach an agreement, the future of our web-slinging superhero in the MCU looked grim.

As fans took to social media to post about their displeasure over the whole ordeal, many turned to one person who they believed could swoop in and save Spider-Man… Ryan Reynolds.

Now, Spider-Man fans are turning to the Deadpool actor, begging him to step in and save the MCU hero.

Reynolds responded after one fan asked if a Spider-Man/Deadpool movie could be a thing. It was enough to bring even more tears to your eyes.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, the latest film to feature the character, just became Sony’s highest-grossing film ever. Without the MCU tie, it’s unclear how the future films will play out. As Sony stated, it is possible that they could return to negotiations, but nothing is for sure.
