SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage! will debut on Nickelodeon in December and will be filmed in front of a live theater audience.

“Stakes are higher than ever before as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world.” The show’s synopsis reads. “Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage.”

The show brings back many of the original Broadway main cast members including Spongebob himself—Ethan Slater. Danny Skinner returns as Patrick and Gavin Lee reprises his role of Squidward.

Perhaps the greatest thing about this production was its score, which many talented artists contributed to. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! at the Disco, the Flaming Lips, Plain White T’s and John Legend are only a handful of contributors.
