‘SpongeBob’ spinoff ‘Kamp Koral’ found a new streaming home for 2021
'Kamp Koral' is set to premiere in early 2021.July 30, 2020
This week, ViacomCBS announced that the highly-anticipated animated spinoff series is no longer premiering on Nickelodeon.
We first learned that a SpongeBob spinoff was in the works way back in 2019. At the time, however, Nickelodeon didn’t reveal too many details regarding the forthcoming series.
Now, not only do we know more about Kamp Koral, but we also know where we will be able to binge-watch the new show. Nickelodeon is shifting its original plans to have the first SpongeBob spinoff air on its network. Now, Kamp Koral is heading to the CBS All Access streaming platform.
Kamp Koral premieres early next year on a soon-to-be-rebranded All Access platform. The spinoff will join various other Nickelodeon shows including Avatar: Last Airbender, Rugrats, and, of course, SpongeBob SquarePants. A subscription for CBS All Access is $9.99 a month.
According to ViacomCBS, Kamp Koral follows a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends at a sleep-away camp.
“They spend their time building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral,” the company says.
Along with Kamp Koral, CBS All Access will also have the exclusive first-window streaming rights for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run following its on-demand run. The CGI-film faced various release delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. Paramount eventually released the film exclusively on-demand after movie theaters worldwide remained closed.
SpongeBob SquarePants premiered back in 1999 and quickly became a top program on Nickelodeon. Along with hundreds of episodes, the animated television series includes two feature films. Both of those films, released in 2004 and 2015, went on to gross a combined $465 million worldwide.
