SpongeBob Squarepants is heading to 'Kamp Koral' in prequel series

Have you ever wondered what SpongeBob Squarepants was up to before he started living in a pineapple under the sea? Well, wonder no more because Nickelodeon has given the green light for a prequel series based on the early years of our favorite yellow sponge.

This makes us want to drop on the deck and flop like a fish wish excitement!

Bak in Feb., we learned that Nickelodeon was looking to bring back some of its classic shows while creating spinoffs of others.

It was then that word began circulating that a SpongeBob Squarepants spinoff was in the works, which Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins suggested could be an original story.

“That’s our Marvel Universe,” Robbins said. “You have this amazing show that’s run for almost twenty years.”

Now, it looks like the new show will be titled Kamp Koral and will follow a 10-year-old SpongeBob during his summer at a sleepaway camp.

The series is expected to have 13 episodes and is slated to begin production this month.

“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for ‘Kamp Koral’ is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” Ramsey Naito, EVP of animation production and development says.

Kamp Koral will still have plenty of jellyfishing and underwater campfires, so we’re hoping this means we’ll get to hear the “Campfire Song Song” again in a future episode.

Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller are co-executive producers on the series.
