Another ‘SpongeBob’ spinoff starring Patrick Star is reportedly on its way

Well, it seems like we just can’t get enough of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Last month, it was confirmed that the prequel series Kamp Koral is officially on its way. Now, there’s reportedly another spinoff series in the works starring the one and only Patrick Star.

Back in 2019, SpongeBob fans learned that a prequel to SpongeBob SquarePants is happening. Then, in July, ViacomCBS confirmed that Kamp Koral is headling to the CBS All Access streaming platform next year. According to ViacomCBS, Kamp Koral follows a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends at a sleep-away camp.

“They spend their time building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral,” the company says.

Now, another spinoff is reportedly in the works. According to Deadline, Nickelodeon is finalizing details for The Patrick Star Show. The animated series centers around Patrick Star, SpongeBob’s beloved sidekick.

The report details that The Patrick Star Show is expected to have a 13-episode order and includes the creative team behind SpongeBob SquarePants. According to sources, the new spinoff series will resemble the same concept as Comedy Bang! Bang! and The Larry Sanders Show. Patrick Star will host his own late-night talk show in Bikini Bottom with various guests.

“I hear the series would revolve around Patrick and his family,” Deadline says. “[Bill] Fagerbakke [voice of Patrick Star] is being joined by a largely new cast voicing new characters, with SpongeBob cast members expected to make occasional appearances, reprising their roles.”

At this time, Nickelodeon has not confirmed The Patrick Star Show.

The Patrick Star Show and Kamp Koral follow various other new reboots and spinoffs. Over the past few months, reboots for The Ren & Stimpy Show, Beavis and Butthead and Clone High have all been announced. As well, the Daria spinoff Jodie is also in the works.

SpongeBob SquarePants premiered back in 1999 and quickly became a top program on Nickelodeon. Along with hundreds of episodes, the animated television series includes two feature films. Both of those films, released in 2004 and 2015, went on to gross a combined $465 million worldwide.
