Spotify reportedly testing in-app podcast creation for its users

Spotify took over the music streaming world and now it has its sights set on another target–podcasts.

Spotify is reportedly testing an in-app ‘create podcast’ button that funnels users through the app Anchor, that Spotify recently acquired.

Anchor is an app with podcast creation technology therein. It allows a user to record, edit, add music, and create voice memos right inside the app on their phone. It makes podcasting easy.

Code leaker Jane Wong discovered a button in Spotify’s podcast library called ‘create podcast.’ When clicked, it directs the user to the aforementioned Anchor application or to an informational page.

Wong’s Initial tweet can be viewed below.

Whether or not this will be a permanent feature is still up in the air. When reporting to the Verge, a Spotify spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny the permanence or validity of the feature.

”We are always testing new products and experiences to improve the overall Spotify experience.” The spokesperson says. “Some tests will eventually make way for upgrades to our product, others are only tests. We have no further news to share at this time.”

It seems to us like Spotify is dipping its toes in the water with this feature, but with all the success and Spotify’s recent gigantic investment into podcasts, we’d guess this will be coming soon.
