Lewis made the comments at a show in Virginia Beach last Friday.
The whole thing started when he revealed that Durst “spent like a million and a half dollars on that fucking video” for Staind’s “Epiphany” music video in 2001.
He admitted the video was “dumb shit” and then a crowd member responded by calling Durst “an asshole.”
Lewis defended Durst to the audience after the comment was made.
“Fred‘s the whole reason I’m sitting in front of you tonight. And I gotta say that that at this point in my life I call Fred when I need like Dalai Lama advice, for real,” he said.
To make it clear, he’s comparing the guy that sings “Break Stuff” to the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism. We can’t say we see it, but if it’s his vision, we can’t hate.
You can check out the whole video of the strange comparison below.
This is not the first time this year Lewis has made somewhat outlandish comments on stage during his shows. Earlier this month, he slammed Senator Elizabeth Warren, calling her a “lying bitch” for her claims of being Native American.
Also, Lewis recently came under fire for telling a Texas crowd that he can’t speak Spanish because he’s “American.” The remark came when the musician couldn’t get the crowd to quiet down. One audience member suggested Lewis ask the crowd in Spanish because there were many Spanish speakers in the audience. He received major backlash for the comment.
