Since the debut of Stranger Things on Netflix, many of us have particular characters that we favor over the others. However, it looks like Stranger Things 4 may cause you to throw everything you know out the window.
David Harbour, who plays Hopper, has spilled some new details about the upcoming season. As well, he says some twists and turns ahead may change your opinions on the show’s characters forever.
It’s been well over a year since we last caught up with the Hawkins crew in Stranger Things 3. Since then, we’ve all been theorizing about what season 4 may hold. Now, it looks like the upcoming episodes may change how we feel about some characters for good.
During a recent interview with People, David Harbour revealed that Stranger Things 4 has a lot in store for the Hawkins crew. However, some of the upcoming storylines will show new sides to the show’s characters.
“[You will] see a lot of your favorite characters doing the thing that you love them for…but you’ll also see them twist it and turn it into other colors and other flavors,” he says.
In particular, season 4 is a big one for Hopper. As we saw in the season’s first teaser, Hopper is imprisoned in a Russian work camp. The details regarding his storyline are what makes season 4 Harbour’s favorite so far.
“One of the great things that you can see with Hopper is that he was a protector, he’s a man of justice [and] he now has become a prisoner,” he says. “He’s trapped and he’s isolated. And we get to see an entirely other color of him that has been hinted at. his season is my favorite because he really is going to show you some new colors and what he’s really made up of.”
Along with some possible changes to the Stranger Things characters, there’s also a little change in setting. According to Deadline, a corrupt and gruesome psychiatric hospital will be one of the main settings in season 4. Newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower and recurring star Robert Englund are two of the characters tied to this particular setting.
Bower, who is now a series regular, plays Peter Ballard, “a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital. Tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day, will Peter finally take a stand?”
Meanwhile, Englund plays Victor Creel, “a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.”
Back in February, Stranger Things fans got their first season 4 teaser which revealed Hopper is still alive. Since the character is in Russia, many assume that the majority of season 4 will take place in a Russian work camp.
Two new Russian characters, not played by Russians, are joining the upcoming Stranger Things episodes. German actor Tom Wlaschiha plays Dmitri, a Russian prison guard who becomes friends with Hopper.
Dimitri is known for being smart, cunning and charming, but where his loyalty lies is still unknown. Serbian actor Nikola Djuricko plays Yuri, an unpredictable Russian smugger who thrives on cold hard cash, peanut butter and a bad joke from time to time.
