Stranger Things Season 2 was everything we needed and more, and we’re not going to go any further without adding a SPOILER ALERT!

Bob Newby was truly the hero of the season. Who else would’ve been able to save Joyce, Hopper, Will and Mike from the Demodogs? Truly no one but Bob.

However, showrunners The Duffer Brothers originally planned for Bob's demise to happen in an early episode. In fact, they were imagining it happening when he was driving Will to school and attempting to help him overcome his terrifying dreams.

In an interview with Collider, Shawn Levy said Bob was supposed to die much earlier on in the season—possibly even killed by the “evil Will.”

“We had talked about the death of some major characters, that may or may not happen in the future near or far. But that was never part of the discussion for Season 2. The death of Bob was initially much earlier,” Levy told the news source. “In fact, in an early outline, Evil Will kill him in like Episode 3.”

And it made sense to keep him alive—as Levy explains, his death is what made Joyce fight even harder in the finale.

“We wanted to keep him alive longer, and then use his death as Joyce’s engine,” Levy said. “The avenging of that would become Joyce’s engine for the finale.”

And while we’re still hoping to get #JusticeForBob, we are happy to see he made it past Episode 3—and get have his death somewhat avenged by the end of the season.
