Sugar Ray singer wasn't the only one duped into fake breakup video

Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath made headlines yesterday as he helped a woman named Cheyenne break up with her long-distance boyfriend, Brayden via Cameo. A platform for fans to deliver personalized messages from celebrities.

McGrath starts out the video excitedly saying “what’s up Brayden, it’s Mark McGrath, from Sugar Ray. Off the charts, but always in your hearts.”

Oddly enough though, another video surfaced of Anthony Scaramucci, a former White House Director of Communications, delivering the same bad news. His video is a little somber as Scaramucci says, “All right man, this is sort of, one of the toughest Cameos I’ve ever given.”

Come to find out, the break-up is entirely fictional and created by twitter user @seanappalled. As reported by Rolling Stone, the break-up aficionado hired both McGrath and Scaramucci to deliver the news via Cameo.

The user told Rolling Stone the videos were “made as a joke.” That joke did cost them $100 but they certainly had us fooled as the internet stormed with hilarious responses.

P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval even had the same break-up message for Brayden, which he delivered while standing under the Eiffel Tower. The Twitter user told Rolling Stone it was “extremely fucking awkward,” so they didn’t share it outside of the app  However, you can see it directly on Cameo here.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering what “Brayden’s” thesis is on, @seanappalled has that covered too.

More on Sugar Ray

Though Sugar Ray may not be on the charts, they certainly still have a place in our hearts. With this past summer being the 25th anniversary of the Vans Warped Tour, founder, Kevin Lyman mentions that just in its infancy, they were booking pop artists. “We were already booking bands like the Black Eyed Peas, Limp Bizkit and Sugar Ray, and other types of bands were starting to drift to Warped Tour.”

Though many consider Warped Tour as a punk-rock summer camp, Sugar Ray made the run in 1996. They weren’t the only pop artists during the Warped Tour’s 25-year run either.

Among those include Katy Perry who performed in 2008.

Another surprising artist was none other than rapper Ice-T. He surged on the stages during the 1999 run. He also made his way back on stage with Body Count for The Vans Warped Tour 15th Anniversary Celebration DVD.

One of the most surprising artist to grace the stages of Warped Tour, however, is the real Slim Shady himself, Eminem. During 1999, with only his debut Infinite and follow-up The Slim Shady LP, Eminem joined fellow punk-rockers during that summer, performing, stage diving and hanging with Ice-T and his crew. Ice-T recently opened up about Em getting booed during the run.

Although Warped Tour has been officially over, it will never be missed.
