‘Suicide Squad 2’ may have found Will Smith’s Deadshot replacement

The second Suicide Squad film may have officially recast Deadshot. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film has replaced Will Smith with Coachella-performer and acclaimed actor Idris Elba.

It has been hinted that Elba is “in talks” with the production following an alleged meeting he had with the Suicide Squad director James Gunn. Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that Elba is Gunn’s first choice for the forthcoming film.

If all goes according to plan, Elba could see himself in the anti-hero role soon.

Last week, it was reported that Smith had dropped out of his Suicide Squad role. According to Variety, sources say that a scheduling conflict may have been the driving force behind Smith’s decision.

Currently Warner Bros. studio has not confirmed who will be returning for the sequel but insiders say they hope to have Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) return to reprise her role.

James Gunn is hoping to begin production this fall, with the film having a tentative release date of August 6, 2021.

The second Suicide Squad film will be Gunn’s first directorial position since his firing from Disney. Gunn was removed from the production company after a series of controversial tweets he made back in 2008 and 2009. His removal meant that he wouldn’t direct the upcoming Vol. 3 Guardians Of The Galaxy movie.

In addition to The Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie is working on Birds Of Prey, which is Harley Quinn’s own spinoff film.

What we know about Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) so far:

Back in April, we learned Cathy Yan signed on to direct. Robbie’s own LuckyChap will be producing the flick, with Sue Kroll of Kroll & Co Entertainment and Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures.

Shortly after the director reveal, Suicide Squad’s sequel was delayed in order to focus on Birds Of Prey with the release date being revealed just this week.

Earlier this week, Margot Robbie dropped the film’s first teaser showing us Quinn in all her glory. The actress took to Instagram yet again to share a selfie with the caption, “Miss me? HQ.”

She’s sporting an outfit that’s a far cry from her famous “Daddy’s Lil Monster” tee and Puddin’ choker. Robbie rocks a colorful jacket, hot pink suspenders and a dog collar that reads “Bruce,” which one can only assume is referring to Batman himself.
