SWMRS lose lose lose (1)

SWMRS are still standing in the bright glow of their latest release, Berkeley’s On Fire, but they’re not resting yet in their latest video for “Lose Lose Lose.”

Rocking with enough energy to wake the dead (or elderly, in this case,) the band jumps around a space reminiscent of a Napolean Dynamite deleted scene.

Amid a whirlwind of chart-topping love that the February released has brought them, the band stepped back to take a hard look at the state of the scene with their latest video.

“I always wanted to know what it would feel like to crowd surf if the average age of the crowd was 71 instead of 17,” Becker says.

While the band has deep ties to the punk scene, Becker and director Ambar Navarro looked to capture the soul of iconic grunge with a subtle Nirvana nod.

“Ambar and I talked a lot about this video as a way of inverting the formula of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’” Becker explains. “Being a young person in 2019 feels a lot more like being in an inhospitable bingo club than being in the hyper-idealized vision of a punk show. You have all this energy and vision and passion to contribute to the world, and you’re constantly met with this sludgy rejection as if you’re intruding on someone else’s party.”
