System Of A Down announce 2020 European shows

System Of A Down might not be the most frequently-touring band, but they just announced a few 2020 tour dates for lucky fans to get to see them jam out on stage.

The band announced the “first of many shows” they’ll play in Europe next year, which include a few festival appearances.

They will first play in Germany at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park on the weekend of June 5-7. Then, they’ll head over to Finland for Provinssi festival that takes place June 25-27.

The band announced their return to Europe via social media.

It seems likely there will be more dates announced in the future, so we cannot wait to see what else they have in store.

Even though the prospect of more live shows looks likely, we’re still unsure about when System Of A Down will drop new music. The next album, when and if it ever happens, will be the first since 2005’s Hypnotize and Mezmerize.

Frontman Serj Tankian has been very vocal about the lack of new music from the band, stating that it had to “feel right”.

Back in December, bassist Shavo Odadjian assured fans that the new music will definitely be worth the wait.

Then, guitarist and songwriter Daron Malakian clarified Odadjian’s statement saying that the bassist was referring to material he’s “been sitting on and trying to figure out” while also revealing that the LP would not be “happening anytime soon.”

After that, in May, Malakian cited “creative differences” with the band’s frontman as the reason for the album’s delay.

“System had a certain way of putting together the albums and the music, and I guess that was me writing and all that, and producing the records, along with Rick [Rubin],” Malakian says.

“And Serj wants to do things a different way. And it’s not just me—it’s kind of three of us that don’t necessarily see eye to eye with where he would wanna take the band.”

He adds, “So that’s kind of where we’re at. A lot of people think it’s just between me and him, and that’s not really the case.”

Malakian goes on to clarify that he does not hate anyone in the band and still pictures System Of A Down as family.

“In our case, that’s the truth,” Malakian says. “It really is a creative-difference type of thing where a few of us wanna take the band and where someone wants to take the band in another way. When it comes to happy holidays, Easters, birthdays, we’re all still cool, we all consider each other like a family.”

While we don’t know when we’re going to get new music, at least they’ll be playing some shows in the meantime.
