If you’ve been to Taco Bell over the past few months, you probably noticed a few changes to the menu. Earlier this year, the company rolled out various changes to make service and customer experience better amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In August, Taco Bell said goodbye to all potato items, Loaded Grillers and the 7-Layer Burrito. These changes were in efforts to make room for new menu items. However, some customers aren’t choosing to forgive and forget.

Shortly following this, Taco Bell announced even more changes are happening. In September, the fast-food chain revealed that customers will have to say goodbye to the Mexican Pizza, pico de gallo and all of its shredded chicken menu items.

Starting Nov. 5, the Mexican Pizza is leaving menus to help offset the company’s carbon footprint. Taco Bell claims that the Mexican Pizza packaging “accounts for over 7 million pounds of paperboard material per year in the U.S.”

Despite the company’s efforts to improve its carbon footprint, customers are pretty upset that the Mexican Pizza is leaving for good.

Now, it looks like Taco Bell customers are determined to save the Mexican Pizza. A petition has launched on Change.org and has already earned over 115,000 signatures. According to the petition, the Mexican Pizza is a particularly loved item for the South Asian community and they want Taco Bell to keep it.

“Losing this item would not only be the loss of one of our favorite foods but a piece of our childhood & heritage as Indian Americans.”

Krish Jagirdar, who started the petition, is also asking individuals to continue ordering the Mexican Pizza to drive up demand and sales numbers.

The “Save the Mexican Pizza” petition is available to sign here. While we wait to see if Taco Bell has a change of heart, customers are counting down the days until the dreaded Nov. 5.
