Taco Bell is giving away its new menu item for Taco Tuesday this week

It’s another Tuesday, which mean Taco Bell is keeping taco Tuesday alive with a free taco. This week though, it’s a bit different than in the past

This week, the free taco is the brand new Flamin’ Hot Doritos Locos Taco. In previous weeks, the free taco was the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco.

Taco Bell has been giving away a free taco every Tuesday since March 31.

“For the past few weeks, we’ve been focused on making Taco Bell the safest place to work and eat, and now we’re giving America free tacos as a small way of saying thank you for how everyone is showing up for their communities,” said Mark King, CEO of Taco Bell.

According to People, they’ve also been giving back to the community through their charity as well as local taco trucks. The Taco Bell Foundation revealed they will be donating $1 million to No Kid Hungry which focuses on ending child hunger in the U.S. They’re also deploying their food trucks to offer food for first responders across the world.

As reported by Newsweek, Taco Bell is offering food for front line workers using their mobile trucks. They’re also looking at how to accompany large vehicles like ambulances and delivery trucks.

Unfortunately, free tacos do have a downside. They’re causing workers undue stress and worry as people flood Taco Bell’s drive-thru for the deal.

Some Taco Bell employees are so unhappy that they’ve launched  A Coworker.org petition regarding worker treatment during the coronavirus pandemic.

The petition specifically calls out the Taco Tuesday deal and its recklessness.

“Those of us that worked that day know it was the busiest we’ve seen the store since the Corona pandemic began and we have recently been informed they’re going to have another one on the 7th,” the petition says. “Corporate is literally encouraging people to come to their store in the midst of the pandemic![…] A business losing a few weeks to a month of business isn’t as important as endangering our lives and the lives of our children. By signing this petition we are standing together to demand management make changes before something happens to one of us. If one of us gets sick, we all get sick!”

But, AltPress reported on that petition back on April 10. Last week, Taco Bell still had the Taco Tuesday deal and they do this week as well.

So if you’re struggling financially from the coronavirus or just want to try the awesome Flamin’ Hot Doritos Locos Taco, do so with respect and courtesy. Taco Bell employees are putting themselves in harm’s way to support themselves and others.
