Taking Back Sunday enter the studio with Mike Sapone

Taking Back Sunday have entered the studio with producer Mike Sapone in Long Island, to begin pre-production for the second round of recording of the band's upcoming sixth album.

As we learned last month, when we checked in with vocalist Adam Lazzara and guitarist/vocalist John Nolan, Sapone will produce five tracks, in addition to the eight songs previously recorded in Michigan with producer Marc Hudson, earlier this summer.

Here's an announcement from drummer Mark O'Connell:

Though Sapone's involvement with the band dates back to their earliest days, this marks his first time in the role of producer for proper album tracks. Fans will also recognize him for his work with bands such as Brand New, O'Brother, and Envy On The Coast, and well as John Nolan's solo material and Straylight Run, Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper's project during their departure from TBS.

Rather than a callback to early Taking Back Sunday, Nolan indicated that the Sapone tracks would be “a lot more of a departure from what the band has done in the past.” The group are currently free agents, and are exploring options for album six, so it is unlikely to see a release before early or mid-2014.
