Taylor Swift accidentally releases 8 seconds of static, charts well in Canada

Something funny happened yesterday. Through some glitch in iTunes, Taylor Swift released eight seconds of static white noise, titled “Track 3,” and it shot up the Canadian charts to No. 1.

According to CBC, “The release of the audio file, entitled “Track 3,” was reportedly the result of an iTunes glitch — but that didn't stop eager fans from shelling out $1.29 to download the song.”

Sitting behind “Track 3” are Swift’s hit singles “Welcome To New York” (No. 2) and “Shake It Off” (No. 3). Those songs are really popular, so that’s a pretty good indication a lot of people bought “Track 3.”

So, there you have it. Eight seconds of static topped the Canadian iTunes chart, because people thought it was a new Taylor Swift song.
