The 1975 have been teasing fans for what feels like forever about the release, by constantly posting about the date June 1 online and having a countdown clock to the date on their website. Even before all of the hype, the date has been important to the band and their fans. Lead singer Matty Healy came up with the band’s name when he picked up a poetry book that had the date “1st June, The 1975” in it. Even though some fans thought the album would be released then, they can breathe easily in anticipation for October and listen to the new single while they wait.

The song, which is the band’s first release in more than two years, is a perfect teaser for their third album, now titled A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships instead of Music For Cars. “Give Yourself A Try” is a catchy song that still feels true to the band’s sound, and doesn’t reveal too much about what the upcoming records will sound like.

“What I like about [the song] was that it still had that kind of inherent prettiness that I think exists in the 1975, so it felt like a really good start, because there’s a lot of tension to the record,” Healy said. “I do think it’s kind of us at our most honest.”

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships will be a follow-up to the band’s previous album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, which was released in 2016. The fourth album will be titled Notes On A Conditional Form.

Even though the band put fans in distress wondering what was going on, the announcement of two albums in a six-month period was enough to make everyone go crazy. Check out what they’re saying on Twitter about the announcement below.
