The 1975 have canceled all 2021 shows, but their next album is on the way
If you were hoping to finally see the 1975 live in 2021, we’ve got some bad news for you. On Tuesday, the band announced that they have officially canceled all of their 2021 tour dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, on the brighter side of things, it looks like we are a bit closer to hearing their next album.

Like virtually every artist in the world, the 1975 saw a big change in their touring plans last year amid the pandemic. Their new album Notes On An Conditional Form debuted in May 2020 as the coronavirus crisis raged on. Due to this, the 1975 have been unable to tour with the new album. The band initially planned to bring their live shows to fan in 2021. However, it now looks like that won’t be happening after all.
This week, the 1975 took to social media to announce that all of their 2021 tour dates are officially canceled. As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in parts of the world, the band decided 2021 is not the time to try and tour.
“We are really sorry to announce that we have made the decision to cancel all scheduled touring for 2021,” the band say. “These are incredibly difficult times for a lot of people and until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew, we have decided the best course of action is to cancel our touring. So that, where possible, everyone can get their tickets refunded sooner rather than later.”

Despite the bad news about their 2021 shows, the 1975 have treated fans to an exciting update on new music. They are currently working on their next album which will follow up Notes On An Conditional Form.
“We’re currently making a new album and look forward to seeing you all at a show as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The 1975’s decision to cancel their shows this year arrives shortly after Dr. Fauci revealed when he thinks concerts could return in the United States. He predicts that concerts and events could resume as early as fall 2021. However, it’s all dependent on the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
Along with a new the 1975 album, 2021 may be the year fans get to hear new Drive Like I Do music. Back in December, Matty Healy teased that a new Drive Like I Do record was possibly in the works. The frontman shared a few cryptic comments on Instagram and even launched an Instagram page for the Drive Like I Do project.
Back in May 2020, Healy told NME that he was actually working on getting old Drive Like I Do tracks remastered. As well, he shared some of his plans to drop multiple new records.

“I’m getting the old stuff remastered and I’m basically going to put out the first album, the album that never was released,” Healy said. “And then we’ll follow that up with a new album. There’s so much Drive Like I Do stuff that was great that there’s not even demos of, so I’m going to record those songs and put them out with the two records that do kind of technically exist in the world.”
So, it looks like 2021 could be the year fans get more new music from both the 1975 and Drive Like I Do. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what plans the band have in store.
