You’re going to be waiting longer for Robert Pattinson's ‘The Batman’ debut

Numerous films and TV shows are facing delays over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the latest to be pushed back includes The Batman as well as The Sopranos prequel titled The Many Saints of Newark.

According to Variety, Warner Brothers is shaking up their release calendar with several movies moving their release dates back by a few months.

The Matt Reeves film is moving from its release on June 25, 2021, and is now arriving on October 1, 2021, just in time for Halloween.

The Sopranos prequel is moving from September 25, 2020 to March 12, 2021. Other films being adjusted include The Flash which is moving a month back to June 2, 2022 and Shazam 2 which will arrive November 4, 2022 instead of April 1, 2022.

The Tom Hanks-starring Elvis Presley biopic is also delaying as well as an untitled Fred Hampton film. Sports drama King Richard, which is focusing on the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, will also be postponing its release.

At the moment, Warner is keeping Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and the Wonder Woman sequel to their release dates. Executives allegedly ended up discussing the release of Wonder Woman 1984 going entirely digital but they’re opting for a theatrical release.

Movie theatres closing is causing a number of movies to delay or skip to digital release. While reopening theatres is going to be difficult with bans on large gatherings staying in place, some theatre companies are looking into how they can do so soon enough.

Cinemark discussed last week the potential for a soft reopening as soon as July. They’re estimating they can remain profitable with “20 to 30 percent of capacity.”

The theatre company ended up having to layoff 17,500 workers while furloughing 50% of its corporate staff.

Cinemark along with AMC and Canadian theater chain Cineplex cut their seating capacity by 50 percent in March. This was quickly met with a complete shutdown as gatherings started being banned all across the globe. Investors are also discussing a potential for AMC going bankrupt through the shutdowns.

Outside of movie theaters, mass gatherings, including concerts, are looking like they will be off the books for a very long time.

More on The Batman

As previously reported, Robert Pattinson is starring as Batman in the next version of the superhero’s film which is described as a “noir-driven detective movie.”

So far, we’re receiving several sneak peeks into what the new film is looking like including the new Batsuit as well as the Batcycle and Batmobile being used in the film.

The upcoming trilogy has no connection to Ben Affleck’s Batman but instead, focus on Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman.

During an interview with Variety in September, Pattinson revealed what it was like putting on the iconic suit for the first time.

“I put it on. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative,’” Pattinson says. “He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’ You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing. Something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating.”
