Released during the DC FanDome, the official trailer for The Batman has fans discussing not only the cinematic visuals of the movie but the lead character: Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne/Batman.
With the announcement that Pattinson was to play the superhero in The Batman trilogy, fans became skeptical. Despite the doubtful response in 2019, filming for the movie began. Through multiple setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Batman has finally come to fruition.
Directed by Matt Reeves (Planet Of The Apes franchise), this Batman reboot showcases the grittier side of Gotham and a much more callous Batman. The film is projected to center on the start of the title character’s career, not so much on his origin story. Pattinson’s Batman illustrates a seemingly indestructible hero who can shake off bullets and explosions.
Pattinson revealed a deeper insight about his character during DC’s FanDome. “Right from the beginning, there’s a desperation to it,” Pattinson says. “He’s really working out this rage. All the fights seem very personal. He wants to inflict his kind of justice. He’s just compelled to do it. There is no other option.
“He doesn’t have as much control over his personality,” Pattinson continues. “The delineation between when he’s Batman and when he’s Bruce is not so clear and other kinds of iterations of it where he really knows what he’s doing when he’s putting on the cowl. And I really like this idea of it’s a little bit out of control. He hasn’t completely defined what Batman is.”
From the trailer, we also get a glimpse of Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) as The Riddler, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them) as The Penguin and Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. Together, the entire cast promises an enthralling, action-packed performance.
The Batman is set to hit the big screen worldwide March 4, 2022. Until then, watch the trailer below!
