In March of 2019, we learned that The Craft is finally getting a sequel. Shortly after, it was confirmed that the film’s new witches are played by Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone and Zoey Luna.

Now, fans are finally getting the first look at The Craft: Legacy with an exclusive new trailer and the official poster. The sequel is a direct continuation of the 1996 film that quickly became a cult classic.

For Legacy, the film takes place after the events that occurred in the original film. Directed by and written by Zoe Lister-Jones, The Craft: Legacy sees a new coven forming and eventually losing control as they experiment with their new power.

Along with introducing the new coven, the first-look trailer also has multiple references to the original film. In the beginning, the coven is seen chanting “light as a feather, stiff as a board.” As well, the classic film’s iconic line “we are the weirdos, mister” is also heard in the trailer.

However, there’s one particular scene that has a lot of people talking. A photograph of Nancy Downs (played by Fairuza Balk) from the original film is eventually found within The Craft book. This reference could allude to the eventual demise of the new coven.

If you remember, Nancy’s powers eventually cause her to become a danger to herself and others around her. Filled with greed, she begins taking risks with her own life and the coven eventually intervenes.

These references to The Craft could also hint that members from the original cast may appear in The Craft: Legacy. At this time, none of the original actors have been confirmed for the new film. However, Robin Tunney previously shared that she “would love” to be involved in the sequel.

The Craft: Legacy arrives just in time for Halloween 2020. Starting Oct. 28, the film will be widely available on-demand for a 48-hour rental period in North America. As well, an international theatrical release is anticipated to happen in several different territories.
